High Blood Pressure

Hypertension is called the silent killer, because it can go on for years without knowing it. 50 million Americans have hypertension but about 1/3 of them don't know.

Blood pressure is determined by amount of Blood your Heart pumps and the amount of resistance to Blood flow in your arteries.
It is more prominent in cold climate due to cold obstructing extremities and put more resistance on system.
Blood pressure increases during activity, decreases with rest. It can even vary with every beat of the Heart. The more blood your heart pumps and the narrower your arteries, the higher your blood pressure will be.
Systolic pressure:
Amount of pressure your Heart generates when pumping Blood out through arteries.
Diastolic pressure:
Amount of pressure in arteries when Heart is at rest between beats.

How Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine can help high blood pressure?

According to certain clinical reports, the effective rate of Acupuncture for hypertension is about 72-80%. The effects are better for the cases in the first stage. It has been proved that acupuncture lowers blood pressure mainly through blocking Beta-acceptor and regulating the adrenaline-angiotensin system. [Acupuncture Researches. -1982.7(4). -285]

Chinese herbal medicine is also extremely effective in lowering blood pressure, by regulating the Liver and Kidneys function, dilating blood vessels, reducing cholestrol, and traditionally by nourishing Yin which is the root cause of high blood pressure.
